what is a mt-bc?

A "MT-BC" is a Board Certified Music Therapist, meaning :

  • They hold a bachelors degree or higher from an AMTA (American Music Therapy Association) approved University, in which their studies were focused on musical, clinical, and music therapy ground-work.

  • They completed a 1200-hour supervised clinical internship post-undergraduate work with a professional, Board Certified Music Therapist.

  • They studied for & successfully passed the national board certification exam given by CBMT (Certification Board for Music Therapists).

  • They are required to engage in continuing education, which could include conducting research, presenting at conferences, or taking specialty/ higher education courses, to maintain their credentialed licensure.

  • They follow and practice by AMTA's "Standards of Clinical Practice," "Code of Ethics," and "Professional Competencies."

  • They provide evidence-based music therapy.
